June 2011

6/30/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

6/29/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • If your unknown neighbors dogs are leaving their greetings all over your lawn, there's a new product out that will help you i, dentify the culprits. It's called poo print and it can tell you what dog is fertilizing your lawn by collecting samples of poop and identifying what dog produced said sample Of course, you have to collect the offending material yourself.
  • I am happy to inform you that last night on MasterChef, Max was sent home. I haven't been so excited about anything on my TV since Rosalyn Shays went down the elevator shaft on LA Law. Seriously, I actually cheered. Princess says I don't get that excited during football games.
  • Nichol from Prevea joined us this morning to talk about Prevea's partnership with St. Nicholas Hospital. Find out more about P, revea here. Speaking of St. Nicolas Hospital, you still have time to pre-register for Monday's freedom run.

6/28/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • You'll be happy to know that gas prices are going down. In fact, they've gone down a penny a day for two weeks. Did you ever think you'd be excited paying $3.50 for a gallon of gas?
  • Last night on MasterChef, my boy Alvin got the big boot. His dessert was awful and although he loves using science in preparing food, Gordon says he needs to learn the basics first. I'd love to punch Max in the nose.
  • Greg Anderson joined us for "Money Talks Tips and Traps" and told us what happens if you hit the baby lottery. You can hear this segment or any other segment here.

6/27/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

6/26/11-Wow. That was some race yesterday. Let that be a lesson to you: No matter how good a driver you are, it's always nice to have gas in your car when you really need it.

6/24/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Our w, eird criminal isn't the, sharpest tool in the shed. After being accused of shoplifting a windbreaker from a local sporting goods store, the man showed up in court wearing it! He was found guilty.
  • In Hollywood news, Pop star Justin Bieber was pushed to the ground by an unknown male assailant. He's okay, just a bit shaken. And "House" fans who hoped that Lisa Edelstein might return to the show next year, must be sad to know she's signed on for a multi-episode arc with "The Good Wife."
  • Race Car driver Max Papis joined us this morning to talk about tomorrow's big NASCAR race at Road America. Max will be driving Kevin Harvick's #33 car. Find out more about Max here.
  • , Chef John from The Courthouse Pub joined us this morning and told us the best way to cook your stea, ks on the grill. This week's phrase is "CHP." If you know that phrase Monday morning at 8:10am, you could win a $50 gift certificate from the Courthouse Pub and Lake 98.1

6/23/11-Here's w, hat we talked about this morning:

  • Looking to lose some weight? Stop eating potatoes. A new Harvard study says spuds in all forms, fried, baked, boiled will add one pound over four years. To lose weight or maintain what you have, eat more nuts and yogurt. Like the official yogurt of the Lake 98.1 morning show.
  • If you like MasterChef the TV show, you may enjoy MasterChef the magazine. Produced by "Taste of Home" based out of Milwaukee, the magazine has interviews with the judges and features recipes from the show.
  • Prince William and Princess Kate will be visiting America in July and while at a charity polo match in LA, they will have a familiar face cooking for them. Food Network's Giada De Laurentiis will be preparing a meal for the participants. She was hired to participate in the event before the Prince and Princess announced their American Itinerary. I sure hope they like rigatoni and mescapone. (NOTE: LINK GOES TO A SITE THAT MAY CONTAIN PG-13 CONTENT.)

6/22/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • I'm sure you've heard the Carrie Underwood song "Before He Cheats" on Lake 98.1. It's the story of a woman, who discovers that her man is cheating on her and gets even by destroying his care. Apparently, life does imitate art.
  • Last night on MasterChef, it was a fond farewell to Tony. Tony is one of the reasons I would never, ever attempt to try out for that show. He's older, set in his ways and likes what he likes. Just like me.
  • Susie from St. Nicho, las Hospital joined us to talk about the upcoming July 4th Freedom Run. If you'd like to run or walk, here's what you need to know about signing up.

6/21/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • What's the rage of the summer fair circuit this year? Deep friend Kool-Aid. It's from the same guy that brought you deep fried Pop Tarts and deep friend Klondike Bars.
  • A magician was kicked out of a bar in England after performing a fork bending trick for some of his friends. He tried to explain he brought his own forks, but no one wanted to listen. He was detained by police, but let go after a background check.
  • Greg Anderson dropped by for Money Talks Tips and Traps." Greg talked about how to reduce your FICA taxes on your paycheck. Find today's conversation or all of our other ones here.

6/20/11-Here's what we talked about this mo, rning:

  • There's a new musical coming. It's the story of Susan Boyle, whose rags to riches story at the age of 49 is inspiration for all of us of middle age still chasing a dream. Susan will be played by English actress Elaine Smith.
  • Last night at the Daytime Emmy Awards, the big winner was "The Bold and the Beautiful" taking four awards. Laura Wright, who plays Carly on General Hospital (I think she's Carly #4), won her first Emmy in twenty years of working on soaps. There was a special tribute to Oprah and Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek won lifetime achievement awards. The highlight of the evening was when Ben Bailey won an award for "Cash Cab" and was, shall we say, otherwise occupied when his name was called.

6/19/11-Happy Father's day to my dad, Ace. Oh, and happy father's day to me, too! Thanks to all of the people who came out and helped in the fight against childhood cancer yesterday at Anne Bella Salon. The Evening Optimists helped raise a lot of money. , ; My wife Princess helped the cause a lot by getting a haircut, buying several hair care products and buying her husband lunch from the brat fry. Thanks, honey!

6/17/11-Here's what , we talked about this morning:

  • A Dutch woman who was visiting New York City was stopped by a cop for distracted driving. Apparently her outfit was distracting drivers.
  • Anthony Weiner, you've just quit congress because of a sexting scandal, where you going to go now? I'm going to Piggly Wiggly!
  • Chef John from the Courthouse Pub in Manitowoc visited us this morning and talked about micro brews. One of the things that John s, ays makes them so good is that each glass doesn't taste the same. This week's phrase is "microbrew."
  • WEB BONUS MATERIAL: I found a Brett Favre Mad-Libs game you can play at your next barbecue.
  • Don't forget to come by the Anne Bella Salon and Spa Co. tomorrow to help them fight childhood cancer. We'll have some great prizes for you between 11am-1pm! Plus, get a stylin' do for only $12

6/16/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • WEB BONUS MATERIAL: It's your morning Chuck. ****** ******'s motion for a trial on his firing from 2½ Men has been denied. Charlie and his lawyers will now have to settle the matter through arbitration.
  • A WalMart employee in Georgia is under arrest after driving her car into the store's entrance. No word on what prompted her to do so.
  • Scientists say that cheating may be in your genes. Actually, to be correct, they should have spelled it j-e-a-n-s.
  • A woman in South Carolina got in a bit of hot water when she called 911 because a restaurant got her order wrong. I'll bet if she would have found a hair in her soup, she would have called out the national guard.

6/15/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Diners at restaurant in Tampa, Florida ordered up bananas Foster for dessert. In case you are nor familiar, it's one of those flaming dessert. Unfortunately, something went wrong and it set one of the diners on fire. She's okay. The lesson: Do not use 151 proof rum in a flaming dessert.
  • Last night on MasterChef, the field was whittled to 18. Albert, the crazy Cajun, was sent home, but the annoying emo woman from Florida, Tracy is still around. My pick to win is Ben, the mad food scientist.
  • Susie from St. Nicholas Hospital joined us to talk about the upcoming July 4th Freedom Run. If you'd like to run or walk, here's what you need to know about signing up.

6/14/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Diners at a Marie Callendar's restaurant location in Northgate, Wash were suddenly kicked out of the restaurant, some in the middle of their meals. It wasn't a health scare. Perkins Corp. which owns the restaurant has entered bankruptcy a, nd decided to close the place immediately. Perkins will close 66 restaurants nationally. I wonder if that means Sheboygan or Manitowoc.
  • Greg Anderson joined us with "Money Talks Tips and Traps." Today, if you use your , car for work, how do you report it to the IRS so as not to raise red flags.

6/13/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

6/10/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Hey buddy where you going to driving like that? A fire? Well as a matter of fact they were. Unfortunately, a fire truck in Orange County almost drove a car off the road and then flipped off the driver as they passed him. The driver was fired and one of the other men involved was demoted.
  • The survivors of the rock group Lynyrd Skynyrd are opening a restaurant in Las Vegas. Maybe they could give away free poultry meals at the end of the week and call it "Free Bird Friday."
  • Speaking of restaurants, Chef John joined us from the Courthouse Pub in Manitowoc and talked about where you can find some fresh summer vegetables. Today's phrase is "jury box." Know that Monday morning at 8:10 and you could win a $50 gift certificate from the Courthouse Pub.

6/9/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

6/8/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Last night on Master Chef, Chef Gordon Ramsay sure likes his sausage rolls. We now have the group that will move on to compete for the first prize. And on a live edition of "The Voice" there was more spirited competition and the judges performing Queen's "We are the Champions." The highlight of my evening was watching James Lipton give the "Inside the Actor's Studio" treatment to the cast of "Modern Family."
  • Dr. Jeff Corrigan from Previa joined us to talk about men's health issues. Instead of getting dad a, , , tie for father's day, encourage him to see his doctor. Most men don't like going to the doctor unless little blue pills are involved.

6/7/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A woman in Texas got herself locked in the bathroom at a trendy nail salon. She was there for 45 minutes and when firefighters came and broke the door down, it seems the salon staff was more worried about the damage to the woodwork than the state of their customer, . Or should we say ex-customer. After the woman, who was clear, ly shaken by the experience left the salon, the manager chased her down in an effort to pay the full amount of her bill.
  • Last night, Master Chef returned to Fox. Among those making it to the first round so far include a Cajun man who cooked alligator, an EMO woman from Florida who almost blew it using white truffle oil and a New England man who has overcome drugs. The heart breaker of the night was a fireman from Cambridge, Mass who burned his fish and missed out, although Chef Ramsay promised him a spot in a year if he keeps working at it.
  • Greg Anderson dropped by with today's edition of "Money Talks Tips and Traps." Do you know that you might get a break from the IRS if you suffer a car wreck? Listen to Greg's sage advice here.

6/6/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • How would you like running around with a dart stuck in your head? That's the situation for a Minnesota goose. The goose is making it difficult for DNR officials to catch him, so they may just let him be.
  • A woman in Rhode Island got b, usted for DUI after making a pit stop for ice cream. After leaving the ice cream parlor, police noted her erratic driving and pulled her over. Her BAC was nearly twice the legal limit. Probably shouldn't have ordered that rum raisin.

6/3/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Have a 911 grill emergency? Then call the Weber hotline.
  • A man who was on the run from the law was busted after his loud conversation at a motel was overheard.
  • We've started a new segment this morning on the Lake 98.1 morning show. Each Friday, Chef John form the Courthouse Pub in Manitowoc will join us to talk about food, wine and beer. I'm very excited about this because as I'm sure you are aware by now, this is one of my favorite topics. And, there is something in it for you. Each Friday, John will give you a word or phrase to remember. If you know what it is Monday morning at 8:10, you'll win a gift certificate to the Courthouse Pub. This week's word is "hummingbird cake." Even if you don't win a gift certificate, mention you heard the phrase whil, e dining at the Courthouse Pub and John will give you a special prize.

6/2/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

6/1/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A man in England claims he has spent over $3,000 to fight his addiction , to sausage. Do they make a patch for that?
  • If you are having problems concentrating, here are some reasons why.
  • Mary from St. Nicholas Hospital told us about the plans for "National Cancer Survivors Day" on June 12. If you want to get involved, you need to do so by the end of the week. Here's how.
