7/27/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• Remember the 1980's show called "The Equalizer" with Edward Woodward?  There is about to be a movie reboot starring Denzel Washington, who also starred on an 80's TV show.  Do you remember which one?
• The Olympics begin today in London.  Here's what you need to know.
• Chef John from the Courthouse Pub in Manitowoc joined this morning to rejoice in the rain and talk about an upcoming event of local importance.
• Today was my final morning show and my final blog entry for Lake 98.1. Sandi Davis will take over beginning Monday. I did want to thank you for almost five years of taking time out of your day to join us.  Thanks.  It meant a lot.

7/26/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• A man who closely resembled Santa Claus was visiting Disney World was treated rudely by Disney employees and told that no one can be in the park who was posing as a Disney character.  So, I guess Disney owns Santa now?
• There's a new judge in town on American Idol and it's Mariah Carey.
• Paul from Menards in Manitowoc told us about some great deals to help get your place fixed up, especially your deck.  Here are some of their specials.

7/25/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• The Olympic torch is winding it's way toward London for the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic games which begin Friday.  Among those carrying the torch, Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the Starship Enterprise.  Or, actor Patrick Stewart if you prefer.
• Some sad news for fans of classic TV: Sherman Hemsley, who played George Jefferson on "All in the Family" and it's spin off, "The Jeffersons" has passed away at 74.  Chad Everett, who played the hunky Dr. Joe Gannon on "Medical Center" also died yesterday at the age of 75.
• A man being sought by police disappeared into a house where he beat the homeowner with a guitar and a toilet seat.  He's now in police custody.

7/24/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• When you purchase something from the Internet, you are supposed to pay state taxes on it.  And if the retailer doesn't collect those taxes, you are supposed to pay them to the state.  Of course a lot of people don't. So, in an effort to help cash strapped states, Congress may step in and force the issue.
• Another bear has been shopping at that mall in Pennsylvania.  This makes too Bears in two days.  This one was hanging around near an Olive Garden Restaurant. Because there is nothing a bear likes more than Chicken Parm..
• Greg Anderson came by with "Money Talks Tips & Traps."  Today Greg taught us the difference between an "S" corporation and a "C" corporation.  Find all of Greg's sage advice here.

7/23/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• A Pittsburgh Mall was evacuated after a Bear was spotted in a Sears store.  Ranger's not going to like this Yogi...
• They just keep coming up with bad ideas for reality shows and this one might be right up there with following around the Kardashians or Clint Eastwood's life: Disgraced baseball player Pete Rose is developing a reality show with TLC.  The show will follow Pete and his fiancée as they plan their wedding (this must be his fourth or fifth by now) and all the excitement of being "The hit king."  In light of the Joe Paterno scandal at Penn State, Rose doesn't seem nearly as bad as he did some twenty-three years ago when he agreed to be permanently banned from baseball for gambling.
• Looking to get in shape for the holidays in November and December?  Give Anytime Fitness a try before your Shamu pictures spread all over the Internet.

7/20/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• A woman fired as a Walmart greeter after 23 years is getting a lot of support from her community in Florida.  The woman was let go in November after she grabbed a Black Friday shopper who was trying to push her away from the door.  Walmart said it led to a "bad customer experience."  What about a bad employee experience?
• The Emmy nominees were announced yesterday.  Here's the entire list.  IMHO, Justified and Southland were robbed.
• Chef John from the Courthouse Pub in Manitowoc joined us to talk root beer.

7/19/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• In a recent survey, 57% of Americans said they think a college education is a bad investment.  They still want to send their kids to college, but the cost is way out of control.
• Who are the top paid chefs in 2012?  The top five is Gordon, Rachael, Wolfie, Paula and Mario.  I bet you know their last names.
• Remember the old 60's Batman TV show?  The actor who played Robin, Bert Ward, is now a dog rescuer and has created a new line of healthy dog food that could extend the life of your pet.  Holy Canine, Batman!

7/18/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• A man who spent almost thirty years in jail for a murder he did not commit and who was released in 2008, got a big thrill last night.  He sang the National Anthem prior to the Tampa Bay Rays game in Florida.  I guess he had plenty of time to practice.
• Randy Jackson, the sole survivor of the "American Idol" judges, spoke out on the departure of both Steven Tyler and J-Lo.  Randy lauded their talent and said "he would love them for life."  No word if Randy, who has been there since day one, is coming back.
• A man in Massachusetts recently paid off his mortgage: In Pennies.  He said he wanted to do something memorable. 

7/17/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• A chef in Switzerland has been ordered to stop serving pizzas which contain small amounts of poisons from spiders, scorpions, and snakes.  Although these ingredients are used in homeopathic products, it was ruled that then pizzas blurred the line between food and medicine.  And I thought anchovies were yucky.
• The new cast for the all-star version of Dancing with the Stars will be announced on July 27th. I'm guessing that defending champion Donald Driver will be busy then.
• Greg Anderson dropped by for "Money talks Tips and Traps" to talk about COD.  No, we're not talking about salted fish.  You have Greg confused with Chef John.  Hear all of Greg's sage advice here.
  
  

7/16/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• Friday was National French Fry Day and the folks at Guyism.com have compiled a list of the ten best fast food French fries.  I disagree with their choice of Rally's as number one.  My favorite is hands down Five Guys followed by McDonald's and Wendy's.
• Did you know many of the classic TV themes had words?  The reason is because the people that wrote them received royalties whether the words were sung or not.  Star trek creator Gene Roddenberry wrote words for the STTOS theme song which no one has ever heard, but he received royalties on them just the same.  Here are some classic TV Themes with words.
• Don't forget, if you want to get in shape for the holidays, now is the time to get started with Anytime Fitness.

7/13/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• You know the old expression "that money was burning a hole in his pocket?"  Well, in Canada, it might literally be true.  The new issue Canadian dollar has been melting like "bacon in a pan."
• CBS has announced it's fall lineup and premiere dates.  Here's a look.
• Chef John from the Courthouse Pub in Manitowoc joined us this morning to remind us to visit Krazy Days in Manitowoc this weekend.

7/12/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• An employee walked into his workplace during the weekend, preyed open a desk and stole $300.  Did we mention he worked at a police station?
• The Wisconsin State Fair has 57 new ways to insure your cardiologist will be able to send his children to a real nice university.  Here's the list.
• The American Red Cross is in short supply and they need your help during their blood drive Saturday from 9am to 2pm at Sheboygan Fire Department Headquarters, 1326 N. 25th Street. Here's where to sign up.

7/11/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• Most people just assumed Adele had put on some weight.  Apparently it is because she is seven months pregnant and hid it from the media for seven months.  Her child is due in September. The father is her boyfriend, Simon Konecki.
• In a shock to no one, only 21% of Americans have faith in TV news.  Finally, people are realizing that it's more sizzle than steak and has been since Walter Cronkite retired.
• Michelle, a registered dietitian from St. Nicholas Hospital joined us with some on the go summer snack ideas.  Find out more about some of the services St. Nicholas Hospital offers here.

7/10/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• A woman on a plane on a New York runway had to be removed by police because she ignored repeated requests to stop singing.  Apparently she must have had a bad voice.
• Philadelphia Eagles running back Dion Lewis was arrested Saturday night, but before you think it was your usual NFL arrest, check out the story.  Lewis and his brothers were staying at a motel in Albany, NY.  They returned to the hotel at 4am only to find out that no one had a key card to get back in.  Instead of walking through the lobby, they banged on the door and when that didn't work, they pulled the fire alarm.  Busted.

7/9/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• Today is the big day where the computer virus discovered by the FBI a year ago is supposed to take over the Internet.  Here's a couple of facts: The virus affects PCs only, so if you have an I-pad or an Apple System, take a deep breath and relax.  What the virus does is change your DNS address, which is like a vandal coming to your house and changing your address. Up to 64,000 people might have their service interrupted.  Here's where to go to make sure your computer is clean.
• Actor Ernest Borgnine has died at the age of 95.  The affable actor was in many classic movies and TV shows including "From Here to Eternity", "Marty" "McHale's Navy" "Airwolf" "The Dirty Dozen", "The Wild Bunch" "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Sponge Bob Squarepants"  Oh, and his marriage to singer Ethel Merman lasted nine days.

7/6/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• Before you run off to Canada to become a stripper, you may want to know that unless you have Canadian citizenship, you are out of luck.
• MSNBC released a list of the fifteen top paying careers and shockingly, morning radio personality in Sheboygan wasn't among them.
• Chef John joined us from the Courthouse Pub in Manitowoc with news about the big downtown sidewalk sale.

7/5/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• A hotel in England is replacing paper copies of the Bible with copies on a Kindle.  Before you even think about it, any Kindles that walk off will be added to your final room bill.
• Andy Griffith passed away on Tuesday at age 86. He leaves a long legacy of TV and film roles. In thinking of a tribute to him, I thought I'd share Andy singing the words to the Andy Griffith Show theme song.

• You may remember the film "Julie and Julia" where a woman cooked and blogged her way through Julia Child's cookbook.  A woman named  Gwynedd Stuart is attempting to do the same thing with Guy Fieri's cookbook Guy Fieri Food: Cookin' it. Livin' it. Lovin' it. I hope they don't make a movie of this one.

7/4/12-Happy Birthday, America!

7/3/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• The real life inspiration for the "Soup Nazi" on Seinfeld is in a legal battle over rights to his restaurant and recipes.  Al Yeganeh hasn't publicly made any statements as to where he stands, but the restaurant has changed hands, much to the chagrin of the previous owners who said it was sold out from under them.
• If you are 45 years-old and you try out for the Olympic swimming team, you are a winner even if you don't make it.
• Greg Anderson joined us with "Money Talks Tips and Traps."  Greg talked about taking early Social Security Benefits.  Listen to all of Greg's advice here.

7/2/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:

• There are a couple of new scams in the area that you should be aware of.  One offers you a job as a secret shopper then pays you with a counterfeit check that YOU are responsible for.  The second is the old foreign lottery scam, which someone claims you've won a foreign lottery and if you send them a certain amount of money for processing, they will release your funds.  The problem is, there are no funds.
• As outrageous as the Kardashian clan is, the charges made by a Florida man are pretty out there.  The man claims the sisters beat him up while Kris Jenner hit him with pepper spray.  I think the only place this lawsuit is going to is a committal hearing.
• John from Anytime Fitness joined us to remind you that if you are planning on getting shape for the holidays in November and December, the clock is ticking loudly for you right now.
