02/10 Archive

2/26/10 Here's what we talked about this morning:
  • A popular Italian Chef has been dropped from a cooking show because he shared with the audience a recipe for cat. That's right, cat. I cannot imagine that happening on the food network.
  • The Olympics are winding down in Vancouver. Yesterday, the USA women took the silver in hockey and the USA won medals in Nordic Combined. Today, the USA mens hockey team meets Finland for a shot at the finals and Lindsey Vonn and her broken pinkie compete in the women's slalom. Here is today's schedule of events.
  • The Norwegian Curling team's pants have stirred up quite a following. There is now a Facebook page dedicated to the checkered , pants with over 435,000 fans. There is even a link that tells you where you can go to own your own pair. Be advised they ain't cheap: The pants are listed for $90 pair, more if you look like me.
2/25/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
  • Poor Susan Boyle. She's become totally overwhelmed by fame. Her brothers are vary concerned about her.
  • Tonight at the Olympics, it's the finals in woman's figure skating. Also, it's the finals in woman's hockey, featuring the USA and Canada. Yesterday, the men's USA Hockey team advanced with a 2-0 win over Switzerland. Here is today's complete schedule.
  • If you are looking to own a Hummer, you had better act fast. GM is trying to sell the brand and, if they can't, will discontinue it very soon. Can I get one with a gun turret?
2/24/10-Here's what we talked about t, his morning:
  • The Obamas have invited one of the Food Network stars to cook for them at the White House. No, it's not Paula. Or Giada. Or Bobby, Tyler or Alton. It's GUY FIERY! This is part of Michelle Obama's "Fight Childhood Obesity" program. It's also part of a new program the first lady is championing: "Don't grow up to look like this guy!"
  • The USA still leads the medal count at the Winter Olympics with 26. Yesterday, Bode Miller had to ski out of his event and the USA took silver in Nordic Combined. Today, the men's hockey team is back on the ice at 2pm (on USA Network) while the Canadians have their much anticipated hook up with the Russians tonight at 6:30 (on CNBC). Here's the full list of today's activities in Vancouver.
2/23/10-Her, e's what we talked about this morning: 2/22/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

2/20/10-That was some, um, apology by Tiger Woods. Here's what others said when they stumbled. Jimmy Swaggart kicked Tiger's butt.

2/19/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: 2/18/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
  • The,US won some more hardware yesterday at the Olympics in skiing and speed skating. Up tonight, it's the men's figure skating. This afternoon, the US hockey team is back in action and tonight, the highly regarded Canadian squad takes the ice against Switzerland in what should be a rout for Canada. Also, our US Curling teams are not too good. On the men's side, John McDonald had three chances in three different matches to make a big shot and couldn't convert on any of the occasions. On the women's side, the US blew a big lead against Japan. Here is today's schedule of events in Vancouver.
  • YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST DEPARTMENT: I made a joke the other day about how John Mellencamp should run for the senate in Indiana now that Evan Byah is hanging it up. Apparentl, y, I'm on to something.
  • Tiger Woods will make a statement tomorrow regarding his past and his future. Even though I don't have an advance copy, here it is: "I screwed up, I let everybody down, I'm sorry. I'm moving forward and will no longer answer questions about this again. Please respect my family's privacy. I'll see you at the Masters in April. Good night, everybody." If you expect anything more, you will be disappointed.
2/17/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: 2/16/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
  • One of the big names in , soap oper, as (or daytime as it is now called) is leaving after 27 years. David Canary will sign off in March from "All My Children", his TV home since 1983. The soap's recent relocation to Los Angeles may have something to do with it. Prior to AMC, Canary was best known as "Candy" in Bonanza.
  • It's a big day a the Olympics. Provided there are no more Zamboni issues, hockey gets underway today as the USA meets Russia and the favored Canadians meet Norway. There's also more figure skating, skiing, biathlon and of course, my personal favorite, curling. Here's today's list of events.
  • Carly Simon has launched a competition for fans to create a video for the song "You're So Vain." She may even finally fess up to who the subject of the song is. Most think it's Warren Beatty.
  • In case you missed it last night, here's the scoreboard after the first four groups in the Westminster Dog Show. Sadly, the Bichon Frise didn't make it out of the sporting group round. In fact, he didn't even get called out among the finalists in his group. I think I saw Murphy, our Bichon, tearing up.

2/15/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • What are the ten things that annoy people at work? Try These.
  • Here's the schedule of today's Olympic activity. I can't w, ait for curling. Seriously. I love it. Also, hockey, bobsled, skiing and speed skating. In fact, the only things I don't really watch are biathlon and figure skating.
  • You may not know the name Fred Morrison, but your dog is grateful. Fred, you see, invented the Frisbee. He's passed away at 90. The name of the flying disk came from New England college students who threw pie pans from the Frisbie pie company.

2/8/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • I can't find a link to this, but on ESPN yesterday, Chef Emeril Lagasse told ESPN's Chris Berman that the Monsignor at his parrish was wearing a Dr, ew Brees jersey over his Monsignor clothes during mass and that the church got special permission to fly the Saints flag in place of the Pope's flag yesterday. They also sent a Saints flag to the Vatican which was also flown yesterday. No wonder the Saints won.
  • The promo featuring David Letterman, Oprah and Jay Leno has caused quite a bit of buzz. How did Letterman's crew pull it off. Here's how.
  • What was your favorite Big Game commercial yesterday? Mine was the Betty White-Abe Vigoda ad for Snickers, followed by the Doritios commercial with the little kid who told the potential boyfriend to "keep your hands off my Mama and keep your hands off my Doritos." Here's what America thought according to USA Today. The Letterman/Oprah/Leno ad doesn't count because it was a promo, not an ad. Make sure you vote in our poll.
  • Those portion sizes on your favroite foods may not be accurate. The FDA wants to correct that problem.

2/6/10-As promised, here are some things for you to try for your Big Game party:

2/5/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

2/4/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A judge has ruled that parts of the 1983 Men at Work hit "Down Under" were lifted from a popular campfire song. Since a publishing company owns the rights to that song, the members of the group owe them boucoup royalties. Godon Gekko was in the wrong business. No industry on earth is greedier and more willing to sue than the music industry.
  • A man in Michigan channeled his inner Wyle E. Coyote building a "rocket vest" out of parts he found in his garage, mouting a sled and having someone light the fuse. Unfortunately, it blew up and the man suffered some second degree burns. And no, he didn't catch the Roadrunner.
  • Mel Gibson is in trouble again. Talking to Chicago TV reporter Dean Richards, Gibson got upset when pressed with questions about how his past behavior may affect the public's perception of him.. As a sidebar to this story, when I was in high school and wanted to get into radio, Dean Richards not only spent a lot of time on the phone talking to me about it, he invited me down to the radio station (WFYR) for a tour. Dean is the nicest guy in the world, so my conclusion is that Mel isn't.

2/3/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • You know you've hit the big time when you are immortalized in Cheetos.
  • Yesterday's Oscar nominations announcement salute some of the best films of 2009. But what are some of the worst movies of all time? According to Empire Magazine, these are.

2, /2/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • What do celebs do when they get in big trouble? Go to rehab. That's what Rip Torn is doing after being arrested in a bank with a loaded gun. The story is Torn was so ripped he thought he was in his house. Next, he'll get Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to come and wipe his memory.
  • Lady Gaga heads the list of celebs contributing to a remake of "We are the World" to help bring relief to Haiti. Others include Lionel Ritchie and Quincy Jones who helped organized the first one in 1985 to help Africa.
  • We understand that Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow and we are i, n for si, x more weeks of winter. Locally, we understand Chris Logan has also seen his shadow.
