February, 2011

2/28/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • If you watch instructional, celebrity cooking shows on TV, you assume the chefs know what they are doing. Not so fast my friend.
  • The Oscars last night held no surprises. Here are your winners.
  • A man in Kansas got a surprise when he got home with his chicken and found a bag of money instead of his order. Apparently, a KFC employee took the night's receipts and put them in a bag, only to have a co-worker accidentally hand the bag to the man as he went through the drive through. Smart enough to realize that this was not a new promotion, the man called the police and returned the money.

2/25/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • You've heard of the fireplace channel and the fish tank channel, now meet the chicken channel. A chicken outfit in Canada will be broadcastin, g a 24/7 looped video of twelve chickens being roasted as part of an ad campaign.
  • Charlie Sheen may have finally gone too far after participating in a radio interview where he ripped his boss, Chuck Lorre and some of the women he's been cavorting with. Now, CBS has shut down production of the show for the remainder of the season. You've got to wonder if it will come back next year, given all of Charlie's problems.
  • Whoever owns the car wash in San Jose, CA is about to make a killing. Seagulls have taken over and they don't, um, go in the woods, if you know what I mean.

2/24/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

2/23/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • The mayor of Pittsburgh has complete, d his end of a Super Bowl bet he lost to Green Bay's mayor, Jim Schmidt. Luke Ravenstahl has shoveled the walk to the church frequented by Packers' coach mike McCarthy's parents and has flown the Packers flag in the city-county building for one day.
  • ABC news presented a program last night on a new form of abuse: Ginger Abuse. They tracked how red heads are made fun of because of their hair and how much they hated it. Speaking as a red head and as the father of a red head, this was much ado about nothing. All kids get teased about something. Yes, I got teased about my hair, but I always believed it was because people were jealous of it. Unfortunately, I no longer have enough to be jealous of.
  • Susie , from St. Nicholas Hospital told us about some great programs for expectant and new parents. You can find them here.

2/2/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • We're obviously still in snow mode this morning. All of the area schools and colleges are closed today and many employers have either canceled work or cut some of the shifts. You can find the list of closings here.
  • The roads in the area are awful right now and it will be awhile before the plows can get out and do their job. Law enforcement officials strongly urge you to stay home. Even public transportation is running late.
  • Tina from St. Nicholas Hospital joined us to talk about National Heart Healthy month. One of the things she wanted to remind you about is to make healthy choices during Sunday's big game. You can read more about the heart services offered by the hospital here.
  • Finally, on a day where all heck is breaking loose outside, there is some good news. Punxsutawney Phil and Chris Logan didn't see their shadows, therefore there will be an early spring. I hope it starts tomorrow!

2/1/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • We'll be in full blown snow mode the next couple of days. Sometime this week, we'll share some ideas for your big game party. Until then, stay safe and stay inside. You can find closings and delays here.
  • Greg Anderson says the right form makes a huge difference,on how much you get back on your taxes. Here's the podcast.
