November 2011

11/30/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/29/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • What's got your local food pantry worried these days? The high cost of peanut butter. A staple that goes a long way to feeding the hungry, the price of PB has shot through the roof the last couple of months with all of the major players increasing their prices. This holiday, if you want to donate to a food pantry, bring them a case of peanut butter.
  • Fiction has become fact at Staples, where they have introduced a line of Dunder Mifflin paper products. Dunder Mifflin is the name of the company in the NBC comedy "The Office." It would make a great gift this holiday season for anyone who is a devoted fan of that show.
  • Greg Anderson joined us this morning with "Money Talks Tips & Traps." Today, Greg told you how making your home a bit greener could save you a lot of green. Listen to today's advice or any of Greg's other pearls of wisdom here.

11/28/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A New York man is fed up with having his weight questioned by his boss. So, he is suing her. The man was passed up for a performance based on his appearance and constantly ridiculed by his boss. Can't we all just get along?
  • This time of year, there are a lot of opportunities to purchase products from Amway, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef and Tupperware. Of course, all of these sellers want you to join their "team" and make a few spare coins by becoming a rep. Basically, the way the game is played is you invest money, get a boatload of product and then call all your friends and neighbors to come over for a party and try to sell them product. You get a cut, the person who signed you up gets a cut and the company gets a cut. How do you repel the person who wants to sign you up to sell? Here are a few good ideas.
  • Ben and Adam from Anytime Fitness joined us this morning to talk about how to give the gift of fitness this holiday season.

11/25/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/23/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • It's Thanksgiving eve and there is a lot to do. At my house, I have the cranberry sauce done and chilling, the turkey brine ready to accept the turkey, all my veg for my side dishes cut up and my gravy stock done. If you are not about this far, you will be sorry tomorrow. I'll be assembling my side dishes this afternoon and tomorrow, all I have to do is load the oven. This makes for a happy Thanksgiving for the cook. It will not be a happy Thanksgiving if you are a turkey, but at least one turkey will get pardoned by the President today.
  • The new champion of "Dancing With The Stars" is J.R. Martinez. Rob Kardashian finished second while Ricki Lake was third. I was sure Ricki was going to win.
  • Tanya from St. Nicholas Hospital joined us to talk about National Hospice Month. Find out more about Hospice services at St. Nicholas Hospital here.

11/22/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A woman in Utah became so frustrated with her husband being obsessed with a video game, she put him up for bid on Craigslist. I hope my wife doesn't read this.
  • The woman who robbed Jeopardy host Alex Trebek will soon face trial. Can I take "People Who Will Soon Be In Jail" for $500, Alex?
  • Greg Anderson dropped by with "Money Talks Tips and Traps." Today, Greg discussed how to make your mileage work for you on your tax return. Hear all of Greg's sage advice here.

11/21/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/18/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/17/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/16/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/15/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Your Thanksgiving dinner is going to cost you a bit more this year. Thank you, Captain Obvious.
  • Since you didn't get to see "Dancing With The Stars" last night because of the Packers game, here is a recap. It looks pretty good for Ricki and Rob right now, doesn't it?
  • Greg Anderson joined us this morning for "Money Talks Tips and Traps." Today, Greg told us about how to handle things regarding the kids and you taxes if you are getting divorced. This is pretty important stuff. There's more important stuff from Greg will all of his sage advice, right here.

11/14/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • You may have health insurance for you and your family, but what about your pet? Pet insurance is becoming more popular with pet owners, who find out the hard way that Fido's emergency surgery may be a drain on their budget.
  • As the old saying goes, there are three ways to broadcast things: Telephone, telegraph or tell a woman. A new survey says women can keep a secret for about 32 minutes.
  • Ben and Adam from Anytime Fitness stopped by to talk to us about a cool tool that helps you when you work out at Anytime Fitness.

11/11/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Fans of "All My Children" may not find their soap on the internet after all. The company that was going to launch it and "One Life To Live" on the web says that only three players from AMC have signed contracts while 13 from "OLTL" have signed including some of the bigger names. They also say maybe we only need one soap on the web.
  • A woman in Milwaukee flipped off the wrong car yesterday. After cutting off an black SUV, the woman proceeded down the interstate for at least an eighth of a mile flipping the bird to the vehicle's driver. The driver happened to be Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke. He pulled the woman over and discovered that she was driving on a suspended license and took her into custody. The moral of the story: If you drive with a suspended license, don't draw unnecessary attention to yourself.
  • Chef John from the Courthouse Pub in Manitowoc stopped by to talk about their long association with "The Lettermen."

11/10/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/9/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • With the economy what it is, the City of Chicago has come up with a novel way to raise $25 million: Advertising. Soon everything from light boxes to parking meters could be plastered in ad. The Mayor says that it's worked for buses, so why not other things?
  • Last night, Nancy Grace was kicked to the curb on "Dancing With The Stars."
  • We talked to Dr. Ed Smith from Prevea and St. Nicholas Hospital about his new ENT practice. Find out more about Dr. Smith here.

11/8/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/7/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/4/11-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Two managers of a Domino's Pizza in Florida are behind bars after torching a Papa John's. Their intent was to eliminate the competition. The Papa John's in now having a special on their new "smoked meat pizza."
  • If you plan on flying for the holidays, expect to find less flights and more people on them.
  • Chef John from the Courthouse Pub in Manitowoc joined us to tell us about some fishy things going on there tonight. In honor of the Lakeshore Big Band's tribute to Frank Sinatra tomorrow night, Monday's phrase is "Blue Eyes." If you know that phrase Monday morning at 8:10 and you are the correct caller, you will win a $50 gift card from The Courthouse Pub and Lake 98.1
