January 2012

1/31/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:
  • It happens every election cycle.  A candidate, usually a conservative, uses a popular song as a campaign theme and the person who holds the copyright the song gets upset, primarily because they are of an opposing viewpo, int politically.  Last year, it was Michelle Bachmann getting sued by Tom Petty over using "An American Girl." This year, Newt Gingrich is being sued for using "Eye of the Tiger."
  • Just when you thought the economy had stabilized, beef prices are about to take off into orbit. This effects prices not only at the supermarket, but restaurants too.
  • Greg Anderson joined us this morning with "Money Talks Tips and Traps."  This morning Greg explained all about RMDs. , To find out what they are, listen to the podcast here.
1/30/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:
  • It was a big night at the SAG awards last night for "The Help".  And no, I don't mean the people working backstage.
  • A guy named , "The Spantasy" has posted a video at You Tube which is a tribute to former Brewer Prince Fielder set to the tune of Adele's "Somebody Like You."  If you haven't seen or heard "A Slugger Like You", here it is:
  • Ben and Adam from Anytime Fitness told us this morning that the culture of a fitness club means everything.
1/27/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:
  • If you think the food police had fun with Paula Deen last week, wait until they find out about this, .  Breakfast at Taco Bell.
  • The Super Bowl is nine days away and even though the Packers aren't in it, you still want to watch to watch the game just to see what commercials are introduced.  Some of the greatest ads in the history of television have been introduced at the Super Bowl.  Here's one person's top ten list? If you have a favorite, e-mail it to me.
  • Former Cheers star Bebe Neuwirth has signed on for an arc on "The Good Wife."  She of course played the uptight Dr. Lilith Crane on Cheers and went on to perform on Broadway in "Chicago".

1/25/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:
  • The city of Ft. Worth Texas is considering changing their noise ordinance to include a stipulation that if a dog barks over 10 minutes, the owner can be subject to a fine.  That's one reason I can't live in Ft. Worth.
  • A man in Fond Du Lac was picked up after a domestic disturbance.  When asked how his wife got a black eye, he claimed it was ghosts.
  • We did an encore presentation of our talk from last week with Tanya from St. Nicholas Hospital because Lifeline is such an important topic.&nbs, p; If you have elderly parents who still live in their own home, please find out more here.

1/11/12-here's what we talked about this morning:
  • A man in France accidentally dropped his wallet in a sewer and, in an effort to retrieve it, got his head stuck in it.  This lasted all night until somebody pried him out the next morning. , To add insult to injury, prior to the wallet incident, he was sending waste oil down the sewer, which is a crime in France. Being a good Frenchman, he immediately surrendered.
  • Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop is in a Madison jail after being arrested for pot possession and having a knife.  His birth name was Jeffrey Drew Wilschke, but he had it changed legally.  That explains the marijuana possession.
  • Xue from St. Nicholas Hospital joined us to tell us about all the educational and healthy events coming up at St. Nicholas hospital during the first quarter of 2012.  You can see them all atSt. Nicholas Hospital's website.

1/5/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:
  • There have been a lot of TV shows and movies about life in a morgue.  "Nightshift", "Crossing Jordan" and "Body of Proof" are just a few.  And what seems like it is out of a TV show (perhaps "Castle" or "Psych"), two Russian morgue workers have been caught storing caviar in the morgue right next to the...um...customers. The men say it is a private stash, for a party, but police are checking it out any, way.
  • Have you heard this unbelievable conspiracy theory about a secret government time travel organization and how 19 year-old Barack Obama teleported to Mars?  Seriously, this is not something on Fox News. In any case, the White House denies the President has ever made such a trip.
  • Last night on Top Chef Texas, New Holstein's Grayson Schmitz didn't do too well in the quickfire challenge, but was on the winning team and scored $15,000.  She'll be cooking next week, unlike Malibu Chris was was booted last night.
1/4/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:
  • A man in Houston recently paid a parking ticket...from 1953.  He found the ticket while going through some memorabilia.  He got the tick, et in 1953 when he went into the Army and his father was late picking up his truck.  The city was so pleased the man came forward they waived all the penalties and interest.
  • A teenager fell asleep on a flight to Tulsa and wound up in St. Louis when he slept through his stop.  He had no money, no cell phone and no one to help him.  His mother is understandably furious and of course, is blaming the airline.
  • If eating healthier in 2012 is one of your goals, then Robin from St. Nicholas Hospital has some great tips for you.  If you missed our conversation with her, you might want to contact her.  St. Nicholas Hospital has a great nutrition program and not only for people trying to lose weight.  They can also help if you are a diabetic or have special needs like heart or liver issues.

1/2/12-Here's what we talked about this morning:
  • If you plan on spending time in Illinois this year, you'll either have to pay more or purchase an I-Pass box for your car.  Or, get really creative. Without a box, that first toll booth north of Gurnee will cost you almost $3. Ouch.
  • If your New Years resolution in 2012 is to save money, here are some ideas for you.
  • Adam and Ben from Anytime Fitness dropped by to talk about their big sale which happens over the weekend.  Don't forget, we'll be at the Anytime Fitness location in Washington Square shopping center this Friday from 3pm-5pm with some great prizes and some great deals for you to get in shape in 2012.
1/1/12-Happy New Year from the Lake 98.1 morning show!
