10/31/10-Thanks to all the people who came out to the boo bash at Memorial Mall yesterday. If you missed it, check out some great pictures.
10/29/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- If you want to relive your childhood, you have two days to do it. General Mills has put Franken Berry, Count Chocula and Boo Berry on store shelves through Sunday.
- A McDonald's manager in Brazil was awarded $17,000 after it was determined that his twelve years with the company caused him to become obese. The manager claimed that having to eat the food everyday and eating free lunches provided by the company caused him to gain over sixty pounds. I guess he didn't eat any of their salads. McDonald's has wisely appealed the decision.
- Hawaii Five-O fans are mourning the loss of one of the last living major cast members of the original series, James MacArthur, who passed away yesterday at 72. He played Detective Danny Williams in the original series for eleven years, leaving before the show's final season. MacArthur was the adopted son of renowned actress Helen Hayes. The last living cast member is Al Harrington, who played Ben for two years.
10/28/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- Your credit card might be making you fat. Using your credit card to purchase junk food is more likely to allow you to purchase whatever you want as opposed to cash which makes you think about it. I wonder where a debit card fits in because it is essentially plastic cash.
- Last night, the President joined Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show." Say what you want about President Obama, but it takes a lot of guts to go on a show like that where it isn't necessarily like "Meet the Press." Again, politics aside, the President is a very engaging person.
10/27/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- How about that wind, huh? The big news is Wisconsin recorded it's lowest barometric pressure ever yesterday. If this were January and not October, we would have had a huge blizzard yesterday!
- Another one bites the dust on "Dancing With Stars." This time "TV Personality" Audrina Partridge goes home. My wife Princess thinks the fix is in for Bristol Palin.
10/26/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- Get ready for some serious wind. No, I'm not talking about next week's election. We're in for wind gusts of up to sixty miles an hour the next couple of days. There will be plenty of hype from the TV guys to be sure and sometime today Jim Cantore from the weather channel will be standing on an Interstate clover leaf in massive wind squalls. It's so windy, I swear on my way to work I saw my ex-wife fly by on a bicycle. . .
- ABC has pulled the plug on "The Whole Truth" a legal drama starring Maura Tierney and Rob Morrow. Normally, I question why these shows get axed so early, but not this one. Basically, the premise was to cover both the prosecution and the defense's cases at the same time and at the end of the show, you had to decide how the jury would rule. The problem is that we all like to root for someone and in this show, you really didn't have a character to root for. In other words, it wasn't about a characters, it was about the evidence. It was a poorly executed concept that probably left most people reacting like I did: Setting the DVR for "The Defenders" and "Law & Order Los Angeles" and leaving this show alone.
10/25/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- Before there were iPods, there was the then innovative Sony Walkman, the portable radio/cassette player that you could take with you wherever you went. Sadly, Sony has ceased production after thirty-one years.
- I love shopping at the grocery store, but sometimes I get a little carried away. Here are some tips for you to save some money at the supermarket.
10/22/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- Poor Susan Boyle. Guesting on Oprah, she told how she used to be bullied and kids would burn her clothes with cigarettes. Yes, Susan, but who got the last laugh? It just goes to prove that those kids who wore the black socks to PE class and were always picked last for dodge ball are now running the world.
- What will be the biggest restaurant trend in 2011? How about pie?
- If you are a fan of the Fox dramady "Bones", you'll be happy to know a spinoff may be on the way.
10/21/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- A moose got loose in Seattle and was chased by police, and some barn yard animals. The moose finally escaped into a neighborhood where police lost track of it. Police believe a flying squirrel, may have aided the moose's escape. It was last seen leaving town being closely followed by a short man in a black hat and a tall, thin woman with Auburn hair. Police were not sure if the moose was headed for Northern Minnesota or Cicily, Alaska.
- Here's your "must see" TV tip of the day: President Obama will appear on "The Daily Show" next Wednesday night. Please set your DVRs now so you won't forget and we'll have plenty of coverage here next Thursday morning.
10/20/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- One of TV's most beloved dads passed away yesterday. Tom Bosley, who played Howard Cunningham on "Happy Days" has died at 83. I also remember him on "The Father Dowling Mysteries" and his distinctive voice on the Glad trash bag commercials. His death marks the second beloved TV parent to pass away this week (Barbara Billingsley from "Leave It To Beaver" died earlier this week.) Since these things usually happen in threes, we'll keep our ear to the ground.
- Speaking of beloved TV parents, it's the story of a lovely lady...who got booted off "Dancing with the Stars." Say goodbye to Florence Henderson.
- This morning we talked to Tom Runyan, a patient at the St. Nicholas Hospital Wound Care Center. Tom had some diabetic foot ulcers that he didn't take care of and wound up in the E.R. Fortunately, the wound care center helped him and now he's happy and healthy. For more information on the wound care center, check out the St. Nicholas Hospital web site.
10/19/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- A man in Oklahoma City returned to work after lunch to find a naked man sitting at his desk. I have nothing else to say except if that doesn't make a case for brown bagging it, nothing does.
- A 92 year-old man in Florida has been banned from a local library after making unwanted sexual advances toward library personnel. The man reportedly left one librarian a note describing what he would do given the opportunity. While this is sick behavior, if I live to 92, I'd be happy just remembering what to do.
10/18/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- We're almost in to cold and flu season. Here are some tips on avoiding illness at work.
- Barbara Billingsley, best known as June Cleaver from the 50's sitcom "Leave It To Beaver" has passed away at the age of 94. My favorite memory of her was not making lunch for Wally and Theodore, it was as "The Jive Lady" in Airplane.
10/17/10-Today (even though it's Sunday) marks our third anniversary with the Lake 98.1 morning show. Thanks for letting us wake you up each morning. We appreciate it!
10/15/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- Want to save money cleaning your jeans. Put them in the freezer. Putting them in the freezer takes the odor out and whatever germs might be on them. It does not, however, remove stains.
- Good news for those of us that miss the McRib. McDonald's will be rolling it back out nationally for a limited time beginning November 2nd. You can wash it down with some Pepsi throwback, which will be staying on the market for the, foreseeable future.
- A school team in Boston is under fire for putting their initials on a school issued sweatshirt. The sweatshirts were issued by the Wakefield Track and Field team. I'll let you connect your own dots. . .
10/14/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- One the rescued miners in Chile is a huge Elvis fan. So, the folks at Graceland have invited miner Edison P, ena on an all-expenses paid trip and tour to Elvis' mansion. I'm sure when he go the news, he said "Thank-you, thank-you very much!"
- Recently, Princess and I went out for a fancy dinner to celebrate a family milestone (somebody had a birthday.) Normally, I like my steak well done, but in a restaurant, I always order it medium because I know ordering it well done ticks off the chef. Here are some other things that make Emeril, Mario and Bobby grumpy.
10/13/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- Give it up for those rescue workers in Chile. After two months of digging, six of the trapped miners have emerged from the shaft that they have been stuck in. It has made for some great TV this morning. I can't remember anything so moving since the American Hostages were released in 1981.
- Last night , on "Dancing With The Stars", a "Situation" was shut down.
- If you or someone you know has ever suffered the loss of a child, I highly recommend HALO. They are a local group at St. Nicholas Hospital which brings together those who have lost a child. Remember, you are never alone. Cori from HALO came by this morning to tell us about some of their October programs. Here is how you can contact them.
10/12/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- A man was arrested for streaking in front of the President at a rally in Philadelphia. The man did it because,a British website offered one million dollars to anyone who would streak near the President with the website's name on their chest and shouting the name six times in earshot of the President.
- A family in Buffalo had a painting stashed behind their couch that may very well by an original Michelangelo. The family assumed it was a copy and we all know what happens when you assume. The painting could be worth three-hundred million dollars.
10/11/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- A Minnesota man faked his own kidnapping so he could go off to Las Vegas. Apparently, he doesn't watch those police procedurals on TV where they ca, n track you using your credit cards and cell phone GPS.
- A new British survey reports that people turn grumpy at age 52. Once again, I'm ahead of my time.
10/10/10-I want to wish my Dad, Ace, a happy 87th birthday. That's way cool. It's also Brett Favre's birthday today. I wonder if anyone will be texting him. Gloria Allred perhaps.
10/8/10-Here's what we talked about this mo, rning:
- Former C.H.I.P.s star Larry Wilcox is in trouble with the SEC. Wilcox created a phony company and received kickbacks. No work if Eric Estrada was in on the bust.
- Who are the most powerful women in the world? Michelle Obama is first, the CEO of Kraft, Irene Rosenfeld is second and Oprah is third. Oprah can't be happy about that.
- A new study concludes that very thin men get paid less than male workers of average weight. That's why I make a lot more than Chris Logan.
10/7/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- Scientists have discovered yet another language. They call it Kono and it is spoken by about a thousand residents in a remote area of th, e Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Unfortunately because many of the younger generation are being educated in English or Hindi, the language could die off with the current generation.
- I love cucumber in my salad, but this one could last a while. In China, a farmer has grown the world's largest cuke: 5' 7" tall and 154 pounds. That's one huge potential pickle.
- Our friend Jason from Menards in Manitowoc came by to tell us about their Oktoberfest. Here are some of the deals you can find.
10/6/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- I love Sun Chips, but I hate that new bag because it is so darn noisy. Try to sneak a few in the middle of the night and you wake up the wife, the dogs and possibly the neighbors down the block. Well, Frito Lay has apparently felt your pain.
- Mary from St. Nicholas Hospital reminds us th, at this is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and that women 45-64 should get a mammogram. Here's some information on how to arrange one.
- My research tells me that today is the lamest day of the year for celebrity birthdays. When your top two headliners are Kevin Cronin, Britt Ecklund and Jeremy Sisto, you know no one you've ever heard of was born on this day.
10/5/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- Being President of the United States is tough enough when you get verbally tagged by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck. But there is yet another critic of the President, albeit one who wants to help. Dog Whisperer Cesar Milan thinks the first dog, Bo, needs some lessons in how to behave. For one, the dog is always out in front of the President where Milan believes the dog should walk behind the human. Call it bi-partisanship, but he also says former President Bush didn't do much better with his dog, Barney.
- The 2012 presidential race may be a couple years away, but already the Naked Cowboy has thrown his ten gallon hat into the ring. The Naked Cowboy is a New York street artist famed for playing his guitar on street corners wearing only a hat and his underwear.
10/4/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- A grandma in Florida was pulled over for DUI and made a unique offer to the arresting officer: If he would let her go, she would make him a grilled cheese sandwich. The cop didn't bite, literally or figuratively.
- Want to go to a resort built and run by blonds? A Lithuanian firm's plans to build a blond resort in the Maldives. The property will be staffed, of course, by blonds
10/1/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- Someone in Kansas stole a Little Debbie's truck, crashed it and left a trail of boxes. Cheech and Chong are being sought for questioning.
- There will be a familiar sound at the Commonwealth Games in India. The vuvuzela, that plastic horn that sounds like a large swarm of bees, is being sold briskly in New Delhi.
- Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the "Flintstones" first appearance in Prime Time. It's hard to believe that Fred, Barney, Wilma, Betty, Pebbles and Bam-Bam have been around that long. Yesterday would have been a good day to pay tribute to the now late "Stony Curtis."
