11/09 Archive

11/30/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/28/09-Murphy A. Dogg and I drove back down to my Mom and Dad's house and delivered the ham. Murphy had fun in the car and at his Grandparent's house where he hid under the couch. My mom was grateful that I brought the ham, but I got a stern lecture about wasting gas and making unncessary trips. It goes to prove no matter how old you are, your mother is still going to yell at you! My Dad was mad at me too, but he is always mad at me, so no big deal there. In my heart, I know I did the right thing and even though my parents were mildly annoyed, I made it right, which is what they taught me in the first place! BTW, if you are wondering why I only took Murphy and not both our dogs, Butkus D. Dogg gets car sick.

11/27/09-Thanksgiving dinner was a huge hit! I think I shanked the cranberry sauce (a little too tart) but other than that, a home run. Except my Mom wanted me to bring her a Honey Baked Ham which I left in the fridge at my house. Ooops! I feel plenty bad about it too, especially since I went out of my w, ay on Wednesday to pick it up.

11/26/09-Happy Thanksgiving. I'm about 2/3rds of the way done with getting my Thanksgiving food ready. Then, we pack it up and head south to visit the parents. Last night, Murphy A. Dogg stole half a package of sausages and ran around the house with Princess, my mother in law and me in hot pursuit. We caught him, but I can't figure out if he ate a whole one or not.

11/25/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Next to the opening day of baseball season, Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the year. As usual, I (along with my two sous chefs Murphy A. Dogg and my mother-in-law, Mama) am making Thankgiving dinner in our kitchen at home, then packing it up and taking it to my mom and dad's house. Here's my best tip on making the big meal: Go to an office supply store and get some big post it notes. Put one up on a cabinet in your work area which lists all o, f the dishes you are planning to make. Put anot, her up with the prep list in the order you will be preparing them. I start with the gravy, the cranberry sauce and the brine for the turkey because those take the longest. On Thanksgiving day, have another post it with cascading cook times so you know when to put each dish in the oven. Make sure you figure fifteen minutes for the turkey to rest when you take it out of the oven. Here are some other tips from some one with much more street cred than me.

  • Boy, Taylor Swift is red hot. After winning seven CMA awards a couple of weeks ago, she won five People's Choice awards last night. She's got more hardware than True Value.
  • In most cases, if a man misses the birth of a child because he has to work, people will raise an eybrow. However, you'll have to give Randy Bresnik a pass. While his wife was giving birth, Bresnik was out taking a space walk as part of the crew of the space shuttle Atlantis.
  • There appears to be a shortage of Eggo waffles. The shortage in production is being blamed on floods and equiptment failures. Let go of my Eggo!

11/18/09-Here's what we talked abou, t this morning:

  • The Libby's folks say there is a shortage of canned pumpkin this year. Best buy it now before it disappears.
  • Nicholas Cage's former financial manager says Nick's own lavish spending caused his own finiancial downfall. Among the items Nick purchased were two castles, fifteen homes, several yachts and several more Rolls Royce cars. Nick is suing Samuel Levin, claiming that Levin is at fault in Nick's reversal of fortune.
  • Those wacky PETA people are at it again. This time, they are targeting Sesame Street, which is underwritten in part by the egg board. PETA believes that eggs are bad for you and bad for kids and that touting eggs as a healthy food is misleading to children. I'd write more, but my omlet is getting cold.

11/16/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • The first victim of Canada's recently armed border guards was a moose. The good news is Rocky is fine and Boris and Natasha are being sought for questioning.
  • Forget H1N1, there's a huge mumps outbreak in the US. For the record, I survived mumps and measles but had chicken pox and scarlet fever (in succession, by the way. I was a sickly child!) I think I just violated HIPPA.
  • A Pizza driver parked his car in the fire lane with the motor running to deliver a pizza. A good citizen moved it for him...by stealing it.

11/12/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • One of our regulars at Lake 98.1 has decided to move on. No, not Chris Logan. Lou Dobbs has quit his job at CNN effective immediately. But don't worry. Lou will still be with us three times a day (7:10, 12:15, 5:30) with his financial report.
  • What a night for Taylor Swift at the CMA awards. She became the youngest person ever to win the coveted "Entertainer of the Year" award last night in Nashville. She also won "Female Vocalist of the Year" and "Album of the Year." In fact, she had to rent a U-Haul to get all her new hardware home!
  • You may love soda pop, but it doesn't love you back. Studies now indicate that high amounts of high fructose corn syrup can cause high blood pressure. Drink diet instead until they find something wrong with that.

  • In Omaha, a would be knife weilding restaurant robber was foiled by a cook who stopped him with a flank steak. Too bad the guy didn't have a fork because flank steak is good eats, !
  • News from Hollywood: If you watch NCIS on a regular basis, you know Tony is estranged from his wealthy dad who cut him off. In January, Tony will be reunited with his dad. The part will be played by legendary actor Robert Wagner.
  • Law & Order CSI is about to get a new captain. Gone is vet Eric Begosian, replaced by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.
  • What phrases are sure to get you fired at work? Here's the top 10.

11/2/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

    <, L, I>
A Minnesota bus driver was suspended for ten days after he used a weapon to chase down a passenger who assulted him on his bus. His weapon of choice? An ice scraper.
  • Remember the old "Sonny and Cher" show and cute little Chastity Bono running around the stage at the end of every show? You probably wouldn't recognize her now, especially since she is a man. And loving it.
  • Is your pet at risk of H1N1? Certain pets like hamsters can catch it, but your dog is safe from H1N1. Just not from "dog flu."
